White sandy beaches. A tropical atmosphere. Asphalt and miles of coast meeting each other in a clash of nature and civilization. These are what comes to mind when we speak about the Gold Coast.
While one might say that the coastal city is your typical beach destination, when explored deeply, it offers so much more. For instance, do you know that the area boasts an impressive array of wineries?
While Victoria and New South Wales does have a wider range of choices, the Gold Coast offers it’s fair share of winery experiences as well. Cedar Creek Estate, Canungra Valley Vineyards, Witches Falls Winery, and Mount Nathan Winery are just some of the places you can visit if you happen to find yourself in need to quench the tropical heat with some exquisite wine.
The Gold Coast is also considered as Australia’s most biodiverse cities. Over 100,000 hectares of rainforest sprawls all over the city where tourists can explore an abundance of flora and fauna.
The Natural Bridge, Binna Burra, and the Springbrook National Park and Waterfall are just a few parks that you can visit for a refreshing breath of air. If you like, there is even a park finder, where you can locate a place that specifically suit your need – whether it’s a kid’s park; one with a great scenic view, or those that have lots of open spaces perfect to take a quick run.
Because of its stunning location, the Gold Coast has attracted the eyes of blockbuster producers for years, using the city as a unique backdrop for specific scenes. The recently released Kong: Skull Island for instance, whose leading role is the gorgeous Tom Hiddleston, has some of its location filmed locally. And Hiddleston will return to the Gold Coast yet again to film another blockbuster, this time from none other than the guys over at Marvel Studios where they will shoot scenes from the much anticipated Thor Ragnarok.
Pacific Rim: Uprising and Aquaman, both scheduled to be released next year, are also filming in the city. And of course, the fifth installment of the swashbuckling film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales are to shoot scenes on the Gold Coast as well.
Wouldn’t it be cool when these films finally get released and you recognize some of the scenic shots featured in the film? Heck, maybe you can even catch these guys filming while you’re there, score some photos and an autograph or two from these Hollywood celebrities.
